I am so grateful you are here!
Most of you do not know that before I was a DIY blogger on my other blog Made in a Day, I was an award-winning hair replacement technician. Saay whaaat?
My career was pretty unique, for a little over 13 years I worked in the hair loss biz. I was the lead technician that trained new stylist on how to cut, color, and style, human and synthetic, wigs and hairpieces.
In 1993, I won 3rd place in an International Hairpiece cutting contest at a conference for a company that now owns the TressAllure brand wigs. Boy, did I think I was going to be famous! Ha, not hardly.
Then I decided to become a floral designer, and while I was in school for that, I started blogging about floral arrangements. Fast forward 10 years later, I’m blogging about hair toppers, lol. I have now realized how strange it is that I’ve come full circle with hair loss in my life.
And now, just like you, my hair is thinning. I first noticed it in my early 40’s (pic left). My already fine hair was getting weaker, thinner in the temples, and started breaking off on the ends. I cut my hair shorter like most of us do when our hair is thinning or has breakage, but nothing changed. It just kept getting worse.
I was exhausted from styling my thin hair for over an hour with a concoction of holding sprays. Only to go outside, to have it fall flat in a matter of minutes. That’s when I knew my hair was never going to be the same and the only option was to look into other possibilities.
I just didn’t feel good about myself when I looked in the mirror anymore. I didn’t feel pretty, I looked way older than I was at the time, it was awful. I had finally realized what my clients had felt all along. I had low self-confidence stemming from a situation that would biologically never change. It was time to do something about it.
Why can’t we all have that amazing hair you see on tv and supermodels? Am I right?
Well now I do and my alternative hair rocks! My new helper hair is way better than my bio hair could ever be and yours can be too!
I started researching online and to my surprise, I found how hairpieces were now called “hair toppers”. After trying a few hair brands I finally found the best hair toppers that worked for me and I haven’t looked back since!
I am here to share my journey and acceptance of my own hair loss with you. I bet you have some of the same issues and feelings that I do, right? Let’s hang out and bond over that! I am here to help you, friend.
